St. Joseph Chaplet

Praying the Chaplet of St. Joseph is part of the devotion to his wife the Virgin Mary and Jesus’ Foster Father. It is completely different to the St. Joseph Rosary which meditates on the mysteries of the life of Christ. The St. Joseph Chaplet is mainly a prayer asking for help and protection within your family because he is the patron saint of families, fathers and a good death.

How to recite the St. Joseph Chaplet

The St. Joseph Rosary is recited on a rosary of  60 beads: small purple beads, symbol of his devotion, regrouped by three and separated by big white beads, symbol of purity.

  • On the big beads, you recite: “St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, bless our family”
  • On the small beads, you recite: “St. Joseph, pray for us”

At the end of the chaplet, on the St. Joseph medal and on the Cross, you end by reciting:

“Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary, Joseph, help me now and at the hour of my last agony.
Jesus, Mary, Joseph, may my soul be in peace with you. Amen.”

It is possible to end the chaplet by adding this beautiful prayer to St. Joseph called Hail Joseph:

Hail Joseph the just, wisdom is with you;
Blessed are you among men and blessed is Jesus,
The fruit of Mary, your faithful spouse.
Holy Joseph, worthy foster-father of Jesus Christ,
Pray for us sinners and
Obtain divine wisdom for us from God,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Devotion to St. Joseph

The first great patriarch Joseph, in the Old Testament, had a dream and told Pharaoh there would be a great famine for 7 years and that they should make reserves of wheat. The Pharaoh gave Joseph his ring and made him in charge of Egypt. “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one as discerning and wise as you are. You shall be in charge of my household, and all my people will obey your command” (Genesis 42: 38). Here Joseph is responsible for feeding the nation. Later on in the New Testament, Joseph is chosen to be the husband of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus. Here St. Joseph is in charge of the household of the Holy Family, the education  and protection of  the “Living Bread”,  Jesus Christ who will become the “Bread of Everlasting Life”. Today St. Joseph continues to protect life as he is the patriarch of families and protector from Satan!
