2026 liturgical calendar

The liturgical year is rich in feasts and solemnities, enabling us to experience and celebrate the great moments in the history of Christ and the salvation offered to mankind, as well as to celebrate certain great saints and the Virgin Mary(sanctoral cycle). From the first Sunday of Advent 2025 (November 30, 2025) to November 29, 2026, we are in Year A, based on the Gospel of Matthew .
While some religious feasts have fixed dates, others are "mobile", corresponding to a day of the week, often Sunday. Here's a list, by month, of the main Christian feasts and times of the 2026 liturgical year.

Frequently asked questions about the liturgical calendar

What is a liturgical calendar?

A liturgical calendar is a calendar based on the Christian feasts of All Saints, Christmas and Easter. It includes all fixed and moving Christian feasts. Some feasts, such as the Ascension and Pentecost, change every year. For this reason, there's a new liturgical calendar every year.

What are the different liturgical seasons?

The different liturgical seasons are
- Ordinary Time,
- Advent
- Lent

What's the difference between the calendar year and the liturgical year?

The calendar year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31, while the liturgical year begins on the first Sunday of Advent and ends at the next Advent season. There are three liturgical years. The liturgical year allows Christians to relive the history of salvation. The A, B and C years are there to help us find our bearings, based on the biblical texts read at Mass.

What are the key dates for Catholics in 2026?

For Catholics, the key dates are
- Sunday, April 5, 2026 : Easter Day,
