Born in 1887 and passing away in 1968, Padre Pio left a profound mark on his time. Crowds flocked to San Giovanni Rotondo to speak with him, ask for prayers for a specific intention, or to confess. Pilgrims also wanted to touch his stigmata.
The rosary is a powerful prayer, and we can turn to it with confidence, just as Padre Pio did. Other saints also had a great devotion to the rosary. There is also a rosary dedicated to Padre Pio, different from the Marian rosary.
"O Mary, You, the most gentle Mother of every Priest, Mediatrix and Dispenser of all Graces, from the depths of my heart I pray to You, I implore You, and I beg You to thank Jesus, the blessed Fruit of Your womb, today, tomorrow, and forever."
Amen.
We can begin the rosary with the Sign of the Cross. Then, we can recite:
The Apostles' Creed
The Our Father
Three Hail Marys
Next, we can meditate on the mystery of the rosary corresponding to the day of the week:
Monday and Saturday: The Joyful Mysteries
Tuesday and Friday: The Sorrowful Mysteries
Wednesday and Sunday: The Glorious Mysteries
Thursday: The Luminous Mysteries
After meditating on each mystery, we pray a decade of the rosary, beginning with an Our Father, followed by ten Hail Marys, and concluding with a Glory Be.
At the end of the rosary, we can read the prayer above written by Padre Pio and conclude by saying, "Saint Padre Pio, pray for us."
During the recitation of the rosary, we can entrust various intentions to the Blessed Virgin (one intention per decade). While praying with Saint Padre Pio, we can ask the Blessed Virgin to give us the strength to resist temptations. Pope Francis has often spoken about spiritual combat, presenting the Virgin as a precious help, as in Gaudete et Exsultate: "The Mother does not need many words, nor do we need to make great efforts to explain what is happening to us. It is enough to whisper again and again: 'Hail Mary...'"
