10 Bible Verses on God’s Love

Love is on everyone’s minds. We talk and hear about love so much because God made it a vital human need. No matter what our age, heritage, or socio-professional situation may be, we all need to love and be loved back. Thankfully, we find the love that makes us whole in Jesus. Indeed, divine grace isn't like the love of men. Bible passages reveal to us that God himself is love. He doesn't hesitate to forgive, encourage, reassure, and attend to us. By realizing how much he loves us, we can gain trust in God, in ourselves, and we can learn to love others as they are. Together, let's look at some biblical promises and delve into the depths of the love God has for us.

10 Bible Verses to Understand God’s Love

Action without divine love is in vain

“If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:3)

How can this love be described?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

The verb “to love” took the form of a man: Jesus

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

God loved us first

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10)

What does God do for those He loves?

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? [...]   For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:25, 6:32-33)

Who does God love?

"Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." (1 John 3:2)

Our mistakes do not reduce his love for us

“If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13)

God takes care of us

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

God give us grace

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” (1 Peter 5:10)

God is benevolent towards us

"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13)
