10 Bible Verses to Help You Sleep Peacefully

Do you have trouble sleeping or getting through the whole night peacefully? It's often when we try to fall asleep that our thoughts act up and disrupt our sleep. But when we look at the word of God, we see that one day, when Jesus decided to board a boat with his disciples, “suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.” (Matthew 8:24). He was so sure that God wouldn't let him die in the water that he slept peacefully. This is the attitude that God wants us to hold. It's difficult, but that's why God gives us his word. “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24). Here are 10 Bible passages to comfort us and help us sleep well.

10 Comforting Bible Passages for a Night of Tranquility

Does God sleep?

“Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—The Lord is your shade at your right hand; The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. (Psalms 121:4-6)

Where to sleep in total safety?

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalms 4:8)

Should I be afraid in the night?

“He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.” (Psalms 91:4-6)

What will happen tomorrow?

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)

Before sleeping, I give my worries to God

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Before sleeping, I think of God’s promises

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” (Proverbs 3:24)

Even while I sleep, God brings me joy

“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat. For while they sleep He provides for those he loves.” (Psalms 127:2)

Even while I sleep, God speaks to me

“I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.” (Psalms 16:7)

If I wake at night, I will thank God

“At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws.” (Psalms 119:62)

If I wake at night, I will talk to God

“I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.” (Psalms 63:6-8)
