The Confiteor in Latin

The Confiteor Deo is the original Latin version of the Confiteor prayer. This Latin prayer is recited at the beginning of Mass for the Traditional Roman Rite. The Confiteor prayer is an Act of Contrition that believers are making to ask God for the forgiveness of their sins. It is followed by the Misereatur and Indulgentiam, recited by the celebrant.

The Confiteor in Latin

“Confiteor Deo omnipotenti

beatae Mariae semper  Virgini

beato Michaeli Archangelo

beato Joanni Baptistae

sanctis apostolis Petro et Paulo

omnibus Sanctis

et tibi Pater

quia peccavi nimis cogitatione

verbo et opere

mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Ideo precor beatam Mariam semper Virginem

beatum Michaelem Archangelum

beatum Joanem Baptistam

Sanctos apostolos Petrum et Paulum

omnes Sanctos et Te Pater

orare pro me ad Dominum Deum nostrum

Misereatur nostri omnipotens Deus

et dimissis peccatis nostris

perducat nos ad vitam aeternam

Amen.”

The Misereatur and Indulgentiam

“Indulgentiam, absolutionem et remissionem

peccatorum nostrorum

tribuat nobis omnipotens

et misericors Dominus.

Amen. “
