The proclamation of the kingdom of God is the third luminous mystery proposed by Pope John Paul II. Wanting to offer a complete summary of the gospel, he completed the prayer of the rosary with the luminous mysteries in October 2002. This decade of the rosary invites us to conversion of heart, to open our heart to God.
In the Bible, we can find several verses inviting us to think about the kingdom of God, thus urging us to change the way we live, as we can read in the verses written by Saint Matthew.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6:31-33)
The third luminous mystery is meditated on with the baptism of Jesus, the wedding at Cana, the transfiguration and the institution of the Eucharist. These luminous mysteries are traditionally recited on Thursdays.
The fruit of the mystery associated with the proclamation of the kingdom of God is the conversion of the heart. It is a grace that we can ask for through the intercession of Mary during the decade. In a more general sense, conversion of heart is a spiritual benefit of praying the rosary when we try to recite it as often as possible.
“O my Jesus, O my God, listen to my prayer. Separate me from everything that can separate me from you.” (Saint Bernadette)
“May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, sustain us in the commitment to be, in all circumstances, tireless apostles of her divine Son and of her merciful love. ”(Benedict XVI)
“Above all, Christ must reign in our souls. In order for Him to reign in me, I need His Grace in abundance. It is the only way for everything, the slightest heartbeat, the slightest breath, the slightest look, the most innocuous word, the most elementary sensation to turn into a hosanna to my Christ King.” Saint José-Maria Escriva de Balaguer
