The Miracle of Carlo Acutis

He was able to use new communication technologies to transmit the Gospel, to communicate values and beauty,” said Pope Francis in an apostolic letter.

Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old boy of Italian origin, is an example of faith and devotion. After his First Communion at age seven, Carlo attended Mass daily, prayed regularly before the tabernacle, researched the lives of saints, and entrusted himself confidently to the Virgin Mary. He wanted to “always be united with Jesus,” calling it the “program of [his] life” in his own words. Using his advanced computer skills to serve the faith, he created online exhibitions on religious themes (notably one on Eucharistic miracles worldwide).

Sadly, the young boy passed away on October 12, 2006, after a sudden leukemia that lasted only two weeks. He is now considered Blessed by the Catholic Church, after Pope Francis attributed the miraculous healing of a young Brazilian child to him.

Miracle of the Pancreatic Healing

On February 21, 2020, Pope Francis, who holds special affection for him, recognized the authenticity of a miracle attributed to Carlo Acutis. A Brazilian child suffering from a severe pancreatic malformation was miraculously healed after his family and loved ones prayed to the teenager. A potentially fatal surgery was absolutely necessary to treat the boy but offered no guaranteed cure. Ultimately, the Brazilian child did not require it. Medical experts found no scientific explanation.

The healing was thus attributed to Carlo and recognized by the Pope during his beatification process. He was officially declared Blessed on October 10, 2020. He had been declared Venerable in 2018.
