The Apparitions of Saint Joseph
Several apparitions of Saint Joseph have been reported throughout history, but unlike Marian apparitions, those of Saint Joseph are relatively poorly documented. However, they seem to have multiplied in recent decades. The only apparition officially recognized by the Church is that of Cotignac, in France's Var region in 1660.
Apparitions of Saint Joseph Alone
Cotignac
Saint Joseph appeared in Cotignac to a young shepherd, Gaspard Ricard, in 1660. He pointed to a rock to move, revealing a spring. This followed an apparition of Our Lady to woodcutter Jean de la Baume in 1519. Authenticated in 1661, the sanctuary is now a minor basilica.

Apparition of Saint Joseph in Kalisz, Poland
In 1670, Saint Joseph appeared to Stobienia, a poor elderly sick man in Kalisz who constantly invoked him as patron of a happy death. Saint Joseph declared:
"You will be healed when you have a painting made of the Holy Family with the inscription: 'Go to Joseph'; offer it to Kalisz Collegiate Church."
The Kalisz sanctuary is now renowned, hosting a center for studies on Saint Joseph.
Apparition of Saint Joseph in Kermaria, Brittany
Though unauthenticated, reported events are remarkable. Near Locminé, a woman encountered a carpenter carrying tools who prophesied:
"Great things will happen here; many will come from afar to live together, and Saint Joseph will be honored here."
He advised: "Keep praying to Saint Joseph—I too am named Joseph" before vanishing. A convent under Saint Joseph's patronage was later founded there. Now called "Saint Joseph de Kermaria," it's a popular Breton sanctuary where many seek intercession from "Saint Joseph the Poor."
Apparition of Saint Joseph in Bethlehem
In 1983, a Greek Orthodox Christian girl saw Saint Joseph in Beit Sahour cave near Bethlehem, Palestine.
Apparitions of Saint Joseph with the Holy Family
Apparition to Saint Savinien
Saint Savinien (3rd-century bishop near Orléans) built a monastery in Ferrières. During its Christmas consecration, he saw the chapel filled with light as the Holy Family and angels appeared singing Gloria in excelsis Deo. Savinien exclaimed: "This is truly Bethlehem!" Many conversions followed, and the monastery became known as "Bethlehem Abbey."
Apparition in Tilly-sur-Seules
On March 18, 1896 (eve of Saint Joseph's feast), young Marie Martel first saw the Virgin Mary in Tilly-sur-Seules (Calvados). Three years later, she saw the Holy Family. In 1901, she reported several Saint Joseph apparitions. A Marian statue was placed there by the bishop in 1896.
Apparition in Ghiaie di Bonate, Italy
In 1944, 7-year-old Adelaide Roncalli had 13 Marian apparitions in Ghiaie di Bonate. During the 9th apparition, she also saw Saint Joseph. The cult was approved by the bishop in 2002.
Apparition in Rome
Beginning May 17, 1948, 14-year-old Bruno Borlotti experienced divine manifestations in Rome. On March 4, 1949, he saw Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph in the final apparition.
Apparition in Anguera, Brazil
Since 1987, Pedro Régis has received apparitions of the Virgin as "Our Lady of Peace," and has also seen Saint Joseph.
Apparition in Kallianpur, India
On July 26, 1997, three girls saw the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph.
Apparition in Jacareí, Brazil
Since 2012, Marcos Tadeu has received regular evening apparitions of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
Apparitions of Saint Joseph During Major Marian Apparitions
Knock
Knock apparitions in Ireland (1879) were Church-approved. Twenty witnesses saw the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Apostle for two hours. Though silent, many miraculous healings occurred. The sanctuary remains a major Marian pilgrimage site.
Fátima
The Fátima apparitions (1917) to shepherd children Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta culminated on October 13, 1917, with a vision of the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
Zeitoun
In 1968, nighttime Marian apparitions occurred over a Coptic church in Zeitoun (Cairo). Recognized by the Church, they were seen by all present without exception—hundreds of thousands across faiths. Witnesses also saw the Virgin holding baby Jesus, Jesus as a boy, and Saint Joseph. This site marks where the Holy Family rested during their flight to Egypt.
Itapiranga
At Itapiranga in the Amazon, visionary Edson Glauber received Marian apparitions and saw Saint Joseph, receiving many revelations about him. Though not yet Church-approved, several bishops support these events.
