Morning Prayer: Bible passages to meditate upon

The Bible is a wonderful tool to help you nourish your morning prayer. The Psalms, the Song of Songs, the Old as well as the New Testament are filled with prayers and spiritual advice from God, Jesus and the Prophets. Here is a selection of biblical verses that can help you get started in your day by meditating upon one each morning. You can also start your day by praying the Lauds and singing the Hymns of Zachari.

7 Biblical Verses for Morning Prayer

“In the morning let me hear of your mercy, for in you I trust. Show me the path I should walk, for I entrust my life to you.” (Psalm  143:8)

“For to you I will pray, Lord; in the morning you will hear my voice; in the morning I will plead before you and wait.” (Psalm 5:4)

“Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil. (Matthew 6:34)

“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord; the Lord will be their trust.” (Jeremiah 17:7)

“Do not fear:I am with you; do not be anxious; I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

“Though young men faint and grow weary, and youths stagger and fall, They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on eagles’ wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.” (Isaiah 40:30)

“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 6-7)

Hymns of Zachari (Luke 1: 68-79)

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of David His servant—

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old—

Salvation from our enemies,
And from the hand of all who hate us;

To show mercy toward our fathers,
And to remember His holy covenant,

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
For you will go on before the Lord to prepare His ways;

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation
By the forgiveness of their sins,

Because of the tender mercy of our God,
With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
