Advent Retreat - Jesus, the Light of the World.

retreat from Nov 29, 2025 to Dec 20, 2025

I would like to share, with the community, a reflection on the image of our Lord Jesus knocking on the door, which I heard on a retreat, during a Reconciliation Service, almost 30 years ago.

Each Sunday of Advent each part of the reflection will encourage you to meet Christ Jesus in the manger at Christmas, reconciled with Him, through the Sacrament of Confession after pondering this beautiful reflection during the Season of Advent.

On week 3 you will be encouraged to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, before the last Sunday of Advent (21/Dec) or Christmas week.

Prayers during the Advent Season

Advent Prayer - Week 1 (Hope) (30/11/25) Lord, fill our hearts with your love, and as you revealed to us by an angel the coming of your Son as man, so lead us through his suffering and death to the glory of his resurrection, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Source: https://ourcatholicfaith.org/prayer/p-advent.html) Advent Prayer - Week 2 (Peace) (07/12/25) Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a hunger for peace: peace in the world, peace in my home, peace in myself. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose advent I hail. Amen. Advent Prayer - Week 3 (Joy) (14/12/25) Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me the joy and love and peace it is right to bring to the manger of my Lord. Raise in me, too, sober reverence for the God who acted there, hearty gratitude for the life begun there, and spirited resolution to serve the Father and Son. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose advent I hail. Amen. Advent Prayer - Week 4 (Love) (14/12/25) Father in heaven, our hearts desire the warmth of your love and our minds are searching for the light of your Word. Increase our longing for Christ our Saviour and give us the strength to grow in love, that the dawn of his coming may find us rejoicing in his presence and welcoming the light of his truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
