Day Four: Let Us Pray for Mothers Caring for a Child with Special-needs

Sometimes, the ideal child is not there. Instead, there is a child who is different. Society labels this child as handicapped, disabled, challenged, whether it mentally or physically.

The road of special-needs motherhood can be excruciatingly hard, and lonely. It is unbelievably difficult to take care of a special-needs child, spend quality time with other family members, do chores, run errands, work full-time or part-time, and find fulfillment. Feelings of failure, grief, hopelessness, and despair can sink in.

Today, let us lift these mothers in our prayers; may they be reminded that Christ himself sympathizes with their weaknesses,  and will comfort their weary hearts.

Prayer of the Day

Father, help these mothers seek You when they are overwhelmed with grief and frustration. Remind them to take strength in Christ, through whom they can do all things, remind them that You love their child as well as them, and remind them that Your mercies are new every morning.

As for us, bystanders, work through us and give us the strength and the will to advocate for these children and mothers and to encourage inclusion for all. Help us serve these children and their mothers in love, as Your own son did, he who came not to be served, but to serve.

Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
