Prayer for the Protection of Home and Family

Praying for family means that you entrust your loved ones to the Lord. Surely, as a family member, you want only the best for your children, your parents, your brothers and sisters, and pray that they are kept from harm’s way and from enduring hardships. What better way to show that than to entrust them to God’s love and mercy with prayer? Discover how to ask God to protect the ones you love most, and how to welcome His Divine Protection!

Prayers to Protect Your Home and Family

Prayer for Family Protection

“God Almighty, you know the miseries of Humankind. Protect my family and the ones I love.

I beg you, listen favorably to my prayers.

Forgive me if my requests are inadequate; if they are compatible with Your Divine Will, may the Holy Angels come to assist me and help me see them through.

Whatever happens, O Lord, Your will be done.

If my prayer is not answered, it means that You saw fit to test me, and I abandon myself to your Plan without protest.

Let my faith never waver in the face of hardships, and do not let me be discouraged.

Amen.”

Consecration of Families to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ.

“O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thou didst reveal to the blessed Margaret Mary Thy desire to rule over Christian families; behold, in order to please Thee, we stand before Thee this day, to proclaim Thy full sovereignty over our family. We desire henceforth to live Thy life, we desire that the virtues, to which Thou hast promised peace on earth, may flower in the bosom of our family; we desire to keep far from us the spirit of the world, which Thou hast condemned. Thou art King of our hearts by our love of Thee alone, with which our hearts are on fire and whose flame we shall nourish by frequent reception of the Holy Eucharist. Be pleased, O Sacred Heart, to preside over our gathering together, to bless our spiritual and temporal affairs, to ward off all annoyance from us, to bless our joys and comfort our sorrows. If any of us has ever been so unhappy as to fall into the misery of displeasing Thee, grant that he may remember, O Heart of Jesus, that Thou art full of goodness and mercy toward the repentant sinner. And when the hour of separation strikes and death enters our family circle, whether we go or whether we stay, we shall all bow meekly before Thine eternal decrees. This shall be our consolation, to remember that the day will come, when our entire family, once more united in heaven, shall be able to sing of Thy glory and Thy goodness forever. May the immaculate Heart of Mary and the glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph vouchsafe to offer Thee this our act of consecration, and to keep the memory thereof alive in us all the days of our lives.

Amen.”

Psalm 91 for Family Protection

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most Highwill rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. ”Surely he will save you  from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

How to Pray for the Protection of Your Family

With trust, faith, and total abandonment to God’s will!

To entrust your family to the Lord’s protection is an act of trust and love. It doesn’t mean that they will be preserved from every unexpected danger, every disease or trouble. But it means that you are asking God to accompany and guide your close ones in every step of their lives, to help them face challenges and to comfort them in their afflictions: the Lord sees to it if we pray to Him.

Do not forget either that the dangers that we may fear in life are not necessarily dangers that the Lord fears for us. We can pray for protection over our material possessions, our social status or even our physical health. However, the Lord prioritizes the protection of our soul, that it stays away from evil influences to save us a place in His Kingdom.

Other Prayers for Protection

Whatever your fears may be, bring them to the Lord and let Him protect you from evil. Let God guide you on the path to Him. There are many prayers of protection, some of them can be very powerful, especially when recited with fervor.

Some prayers are more specific: you can ask for God’s protection in your professional life, or say prayers of protection and deliverance to be delivered from every obstacle impeding your journey as a happy and free child of God.

You can also pray for the powerful intercession of the Virgin Mary, or St. Rita's, the “Patron Saint of Impossible cases”: let them bring your prayers to Jesus Christ.
