Dear Friends,

We have now come to the end of our Lenten Retreat with Saint Elijah the Prophet. On this Easter morning, I would like to thank you all for joining us in making this retreat. I and my brother Carmelites from the Carmelite Priory in Boars Hill, Oxford in England would like to express our deepest sentiments of gratitude to God for the privilege of having been your companions on this retreat.

We began this retreat with the theme  ‘Awakened by the Beloved' which highlighted for us the need to make sacred time and space in order to have a deeper experience of God who seeks intimacy with us. I would encourage you to continue with this practice in your own way for that will be your path towards intimacy with God. Let us all continue to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit that we can move away from the superficial and shallow areas and attitudes of our life into the ‘depths' of intimacy with God. We cannot do this on our own. It is God who can achieve this in us. St John of the Cross affirms this when he said that “If a person is seeking God, so much more is God seeking the person.” So, we can be confident that our desire for intimacy with God will be realised through God's own work in us.

We hope, and indeed believe, that the work of the Centre for Applied Carmelite Spirituality will continue to make a contribution to the Christian family and the world at large, enriching our audience with the teachings and witness of our Carmelite saints and of our team today. We would like you to be partners with us in this work of God.
