In the Beginning

Genesis 1: 1-2

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Meditation

The beginning of the Bible is also the beginning of life. It gives us the essentials of the universe: time (in the beginning), space (the heavens) and matter (the earth). It says that darkness was over the surface BUT the Spirit of God was hovering.  The Hebrew word for ‘hovering' is ‘rachaph' which means having great concern and care. The Holy Spirit is already protecting and taking care of creation.

Here we can see one of the roles of the Holy Spirit – to care for us. He is always there ‘hovering' over us. He cares for us. Do you believe that He is hovering over you and taking care of you?

Meet the Challenge

This week take the time to meditate upon the Spirit of God hovering over you ALL THE TIME even when you may feel that God's presence is non existent. Try every morning to ask the Holy Spirit for His guidance and protection especially when you feel that there is doubt and darkness because of a difficult situation that you have to face and solve.

Let's Pray

Holy Spirit even though I know you exist, I have a hard time truly believing in my heart that you are hovering over me all the time just waiting for me to call upon you. Help me to feel your presence, guidance and protection from the moment I open my eyes in the morning. Holy Spirit grant me the gift of feeling you near me every time I make a decision this week. I thank you for each time you have been there for me without me ever noticing. Amen.

Let's Praise Him

Community prayer

Breathe into me Holy Spirit

Breathe into me, Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy. (Saint Augustine)
