Have hope in God

Isaiah 40:28,29.

“The Lord does not grow tired or weary, his understanding is beyond fathoming. He gives strength to the weary.”

The above phrase from Isaiah is beautifully enhanced by the words of Jesus in the Gospel, “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.”

How well God knows us. As we come to the end of another calendar year we are often tired. The days are dark and cold and we can feel rather weary.  But God invites us to always have hope in him for in doing so we regain our strength through him. His very own son, Jesus is gentle, and humble and with him we will find rest and be able to renew our strength.

Once again a final word from St Augustine.

“O Lord our God, let the shelter of your wings give us hope. Protect us and uphold us. When you are our strength we are strong, but when our strength is our own we are weak. Let us come home to you, O God, for fear that we be lost.”

Nativity Prayer of St Augustine

Let the just rejoice, for their Justifier is born. Let the sick and infirm rejoice, for their Savior is born. Let the captives rejoice, for their Redeemer is born. Let slaves rejoice, for their Master is born. Let free men rejoice, for their Liberator is born. Let all Christians rejoice, for Jesus Christ is born. St Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-440)

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone. Col 4:6
