Day 3 - He retreated into the desert and prayed

Once upon a time…

At the end of the eighties, Father Jorge Mario had many difficulties to handle in the Order. Some criticized that he was as always making his decisions alone; others said that they didn't appreciate his way of being a pastor as he was too close to the poor and needy as well as his flock.

Between 1990 and 1992, he was sent to Cordoba, in Argentina, as priest and confessor. For him this was exile. It was a somber but beneficial period for him. It was a time of internal purification as he spent many hours in silent prayer, in studying and reflecting, as well as serving his brothers who were elderly and sick. Each day he spent hours giving the sacrament of reconciliation. He realised that the Argentinian population was changing.

A Saying…

In silence and in the light of the Holy Spirit, it is possible to perceive the many paths to holiness that our Lord and Saviour gives us.

"I do not believe that holiness is possible without prayer, it doesn't mean necessarily spending long hours or having intense feelings (…) When there is silence it is possible to perceive, with the help of the Holy Spirit, the many paths to holiness that our Lord and Saviour gives us. Otherwise all of our decisions are only “decorations” that instead of promoting the Gospel in our lives, cover up and suffocate us. For any disciple, it is essential that he/she be with the Master to be able to listen, to learn from him, and to continue learning. If we don't listen, all of our words are only noise and in vain” Gaudete et exsultate, n°150

A Prayer…

Today let us ask in prayer that our Holy Father listens everyday to the Lord, and makes all his decisions with the Lord. Let us also ask that the Lord who is the Creator and Ruler of all things, mend any mistakes that were made by the Holy Father.

Three ways to pray for this intention:
1. I click immediately on the tab “I pray” just below, and I carefully read the “prayer to the Holy Spirit for Pope Francis”
2. I say 10 Hail Marys and I click on the tab “I pray”
3. I offer 3 minutes of silence, heart to heart, with God, then I click on the tab “I pray”

Community prayer

Prayer to the Holy Spirit for our Holy Father, Pope Francis!

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.
