September retreat: my sufferings, a road to Glory
We are entering the harvest month, the reason has matured and is going to give its juice. On the 14th, we also celebrated the feast of the Glorious Cross! The grape of the saviour has been crushed in the press of sin and has given the wine of salvation, the Blood of the Lamb. What a paradox to juxtapose the Cross and the Glory!
Saint Paul said: ‘‘But God forbid that I boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ’’ (Gal 6,14).
And for me, daughter of God, what does that mean? At the same time it gives death, the crucifixion also symbolises the victory over death. In many cases, the bite of the test and its venom come to serve as a remedy against an even greater evil. We shall also celebrate the birthday of the one who has been the way to that victory. Mary welcomed the Cross standing, contemplating something greater than her, a Glory in which she certainly was already expecting us all. We shall walk these three days on the paths of Reconciliation whose instrument is the Cross, at the very heart of our suffering, to lift up our hearts as Mary to the triumph of Love in our lives and in this world. In Hebrew, the word ‘obstacles’ share the same letters with the word ‘happiness’, we distinguish the pedagogy of the Cross promise of Victory and the Glory.
Day 1: my suffering
Day 2: brandish one’s cross
Day 3: the Glory
