Today we are so excited to share with you our new series on what it means to be “baptised in the Holy Spirit”.

Meditation

Jesus was baptised at the age of 30 by John the Baptist. His baptism marked the beginning of a new life for Jesus – from a sedentary one in Nazareth to the life of a missionary spreading the Good News throughout the land. John the Baptist preached of conversion through baptism with water being the sign. He invited everyone to turn away from sin and make place for the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ who would baptise us with the Holy Spirit.

Let us take a closer look at this event and what our Father desires for us, just as He desired for His son: baptism in the Holy Spirit.

In recent years we have been hearing more and more about “being baptised in the Holy Spirit” or “Effusion of the Holy Spirit” In all parts of the world, Christians from all different denominations are talking about being “born again” through baptism in the Holy Spirit and how it has radically changed their lives. Their faith is now “ALIVE”. They feel a new FIRE burning in their hearts and their eagerness to share the Good News has multiplied. They all confirm that this experience has changed EVERYTHING. It has given them a new START!

Fifty days after Easter, the Church itself was born again through a gigantic baptism in the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. The apostles had to be clothed with a force from above, (Luke 24:49). This baptism includes us as well because we are all members of Christ’s church.

Have I already prayed to receive this baptism that has been promised by my Father?

Do I realise that Pentecost is not just one specific moment in the church but an on going process in my life where I can ask over and over again to receive the Holy Spirit to help me move ahead form one degree to glory to the next!

2 Corinthians 3:18  "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

As Randy Clark, an American Pasteur, explains in his book, “Baptised in the Spirit”, If Jesus waited to be anointed with the Holy Spirit before setting off to evangelize? if the apostles, after spending three years with Jesus, waited to receive the power of the Holy Spirit before beginning their ministry (Luke 24:49) and if many saints at a given moment in their lives, received this grace through the Holy Spirit, who are we to say that we don’t need to experience this?

Practical Advice

When you call on the Holy Spirit, keep silent and imagine the Holy Spirit coming towards you, as a light breeze, as a dove, as fire…. Believe that He is with you, because through your faith and the promise of our Father, He is truly present with you.

Rise to the challenge

You could try getting into the habit of calling upon the Holy Spirit daily.  What truly matters is the deep desire in your heart and soul to become one with the Holy Spirit and an unquenchable thirst to be with Him. It makes no difference if you repeat one hundred times “come Holy Spirit”.  He descends upon those who hunger and thirst for Him!

Let us pray

Abba, Father, I thank you for your love for me. You tell me, just as you say eternally to your son Jesus Christ, “You are my beloved Son, in You I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22). How marvellous! Father I pray that the heavens will open above me. I too, want my heart, my being, and my life to be immersed in the Spirit of love. In the name of Jesus, (re)baptise me in the Holy Spirit!
