The Faith of Others

Main post image

Lk 5,20

Seeing their faith Jesus said, your sins are forgiven you.

Where is God?  It's a question many of us ask at certain times in life. I remember a couple once came to see me to talk about coming back to Church. However the woman said that she had been struggling with her faith because she had gone through a series of tough experiences and she didn't feel that God had been there for her. She then added that if it hadn't been for her husband, she wouldn't have known what to do. Then the penny dropped. God was there all the time, trying to help her, through her husband.

Often it is the faith and love of others around us that express something of God's presence in our lives. In the gospel reading today the paralysed man was healed not because of his faith, but because of the faith of those who carried the man to him. "Seeing their faith Jesus said, your sins are forgiven you." Lk 5, 20. There are times when we lack faith and the will to face life's problems - we too can be paralysed - but that is when the support of those who love us really comes into play. Where is God? Look to your loved-ones and you'll see God there.
