Prayers to Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Mount Carmel is a mountain in Palestine. In the Bible, it is a place of encounter with God, as was the case for the prophet Elijah. The Virgin Mary, too, enables us to experience this personal encounter with God.
We owe this Marian devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel to the Carmelite Order. The Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to Simon Stock in the 13th century and to have given him the scapular as a sign of her protection.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated on July 16. We can pray to the Blessed Virgin to ask for her protection and to obtain graces.
An Infallible Prayer to the Virgin Mary
“O Mary,
Flower and Beauty of Carmel,
Fruitful Vine,
Splendor of Heaven,
Virgin and Mother of the Son of God,
bend down to us in our time of need! (state your request here)
O Star of the Sea, come to our aid and show yourself to be our Mother!
Holy Mary, Mother of God, we humbly implore you from the depths of our hearts: may nothing resist your all-powerful intercession.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us.
Amen.”
Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel
“Immaculate Virgin, Mary,
Light and Glory of Mount Carmel,
cast a benevolent gaze upon us,
and keep us under
your maternal protection.
Strengthen our weakness
with your power,
and dispel with your light
the darkness of our hearts.
Increase in us faith,
hope, and charity.
Adorn our souls with all the virtues
so that they may become ever more
dear to your Divine Son.
Assist us during our lives,
comfort us with your presence
at the hour of our death,
and present us to the Most Holy Trinity,
as your children,
so that we may praise you
and glorify you eternally in heaven.
Amen.”
Promise of the Virgin Mary during her apparition to Simon Stock
“Whoever dies wearing this habit will be saved; they will never suffer the eternal fires. It is a sign of salvation, a safeguard against danger, a pledge of peace and an eternal covenant. If, on the day of their passing into the next life, they (the children of Carmel) are led to Purgatory, I will descend there on the Saturday following their death, and I will deliver those I find there and bring them back to the holy mountain and to eternal life.”
