Marie-Julie Jahenny: Life, Prophecies, Prayers

Nicknamed "the stigmatized Breton," Marie-Julie Jahenny (1850–1941) was a Catholic who lived in La Fraudais, Brittany. She physically relived Christ's Passion and received numerous visions and prophecies.

Life of Marie-Julie Jahenny

Marie-Julie Jahenny was born on February 12, 1850, in Blain, Brittany. At birth, her mother consecrated her to the , and she was baptized the next day—. Around four years later, the family moved to La Fraudais. As a child, Marie-Julie had a deep love for and profound sensitivity to the Cross, secretly practicing severe mortifications. At 16, she entered domestic service but left after six months due to frail health.

On January 6, 1873, during Mass, Marie-Julie felt extreme fatigue. Medical examination revealed a critical condition. A month later, doctors declared her near death, and she received the . On February 22, as loved ones gathered at her bedside, she lost consciousness but awoke announcing: "Do not weep. I will not die. I saw the Holy Virgin who told me I would be healed on May 2 at 3 PM." She described Mary "dressed in white, leaning on a large white cross," who foretold sufferings and promised to return.

On March 15, Our Lady gently asked if she would accept her Son’s wounds and suffer lifelong for sinners’ conversion. "Yes, my Good Mother," replied Marie-Julie, "if my Jesus desires it, I submit to His Will." The Virgin responded, "My dear child, this will be your mission," promising to return on the Feast of the Holy Wounds with her Son.

On March 21, 1873, before witnesses, Marie-Julie received the stigmata. Jesus appeared with five luminous wounds; rays from each pierced her hands, feet, and side, causing blood to flow. She predicted the blood would flow again the following Friday—beginning weekly Passion experiences lasting until her death. On October 7, she received the crown of thorns; on November 25, the shoulder wound.

On February 21, 1874, she experienced "Mystical Marriage," with a ring forming on her finger before witnesses chosen by the bishop. Marie-Julie also lived with inedia (miraculous total fasting). Her life became a succession of supernatural events: mystical communions, healings, visions, prophecies, and spiritual songs—alongside attacks from the . Countless visitors came to her room, receiving graces, healings, and conversions.

In June 1880, a new trial began, lasting four years. She lost sight, hearing, speech, and mobility. In this "dark night," she retained consolations: hearing her confessor’s Latin prayers, speaking during ecstasies, radiant gazes during visions, and—despite paralysis—living her weekly.

Two Bishops of Nantes supported her: Bishop Fournier defended her cause in Rome, and Bishop Le Fer de la Motte. Cardinal Pacelli (future Pius XII) visited La Fraudais in 1937 while traveling to Lisieux and Paris.

Marie-Julie died peacefully on March 4, 1941, aged 91. To date, the Catholic Church has not recognized her prophecies, and the Diocese of Nantes does not oversee the La Fraudais Sanctuary, though her house may be visited. The "Friends of Marie-Julie Jahenny Association" was founded in 1958 by the Marquis de la Franquerie.

Prophecies of Marie-Julie Jahenny

During ecstasies, Marie-Julie had over 3,000 visions between 1873–1941. She did not record them herself; attendants transcribed them. Her confessor, Fr. David, documented her words in 30 notebooks forming the "Journal of La Fraudais." After 1877, when the new Bishop of Nantes reassigned Fr. David, faithful followers (including the Charbonnier brothers and Madame Grégoire) continued transcribing.

No complete edition of her ecstasies exists, and texts remain scattered. Bishop Émile Marcus (Nantes, 1982–1996) began compiling them but left the work unfinished. Questions remain about textual fidelity, recalling how Clemens Brentano rewrote words romantically.

Marie-Julie’s visions concerned the present times, and the La Fraudais prophecies generally address the end times. Some have been fulfilled; others about future events remain difficult to interpret.

Map of France Based on Marie-Julie’s Prophecies

A map of France was created by Marquis de la Franquerie and General Maxime Weygand from La Fraudais prophecies. It marks cities to be destroyed, regions invaded by enemy armies, and protected zones. Sites of are indicated as safe havens. The map also predicts natural disasters: tsunamis and earthquakes.

Praying with Marie-Julie Jahenny

Marie-Julie’s Prayer

"Each day, O my Heavenly Spouse, give my heart extreme sweetness; from the height of the Cross, O Jesus, look tenderly upon Your weeping children. Beloved Jesus, show us Your Love. From Heaven’s height, behold Your children. Mercy, my God, for sinners who have not listened! And You, Mary, O tender Mother, pray to Jesus Your dear Son; beg Him for mercy! Without You, my God, alas! Without You, we perish; hide us in Your Heart. Tender Mary, carry our hearts to Jesus. O Divine Master, we shall all go blessing Your Sacred Heart. It will be our defense. It will be the King of men. Divine Jesus, bring victory from Your adorable Heart; manifest Your clemency. Precious treasure is the Cross! What rich fortune to possess the Cross! Mercy, my God, from the Cross’s height, for Your children clothed in mourning! Show us the flower of hope that will save us! Mary, my august Mother, present our hearts’ lament to Jesus, and tell Him we desire peace. Your dear Son refuses You nothing. Bring us the promised flower—our hope. Hasten this time of peace! Mercy, my God, for Your children! O Mary, ask Jesus to pardon before exercising divine vengeance! We shall not perish, for Mary promises; Mary, our Mother, will protect us.

Amen."

Veneration Prayer to the Holy Cross "O Crux Ave"

Revealed by Jesus to Marie-Julie during an ecstasy on January 27, 1922:
"I salute you, I adore you, I embrace you, O adorable Cross of my Savior. Protect us, guard us, save us. Jesus loved you so; following His example, I love you. By your holy image, calm our fears. May I feel only peace and trust!"
