3 prayers for Lent

The season of Lent is a special time for all Christians to draw closer to God and give him a greater place in their lives, as we approach Easter , which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. Lent is a time for penance, sharing and prayer. Like Jesus, praying for 40 days in the desert, we are invited to get back to basics. Here are three beautiful Lenten prayers to accompany us in this time of conversion and prepare us well for the joy of Easter.

A Lenten morning and evening prayer

"Lord and Master of my life, do not abandon me to the spirit of laziness, discouragement, domination and vain words!

But grant me, your servant, the spirit of integrity, humility, patience and love!

Yes, Lord-King, grant me to see my faults and not to condemn my brother, for you are blessed for ever and ever! Amen".

This prayer is attributed to Saint Ephrem the Syrian, and is recited especially during Great Lent.

Saint Ephrem, a Doctor of the Church, is also one of the Desert Fathers , those hermits of the first centuries of Christianity, experts in meditation and the life of the soul, who have left us advice of such modern wisdom.

Conversion prayer for Lent

"Lord my God, give my heart to desire you; in desiring you, to seek you; in seeking you, to find you; in finding you, to love you; and in loving you, to redeem my faults; and once redeemed, to commit them no more.

Lord my God, give my heart penitence, my mind repentance, my eyes the source of tears, and my hands the largesse of almsgiving.

You who are my King, extinguish in me the desires of the flesh, and kindle the fire of your love. You who are my Redeemer, drive from me the spirit of pride, and may your benevolence grant me the spirit of your humility.

You who are my Savior, drive away from me the fury of anger, and may your kindness grant me the shield of patience.

You who are my Creator, uproot resentment from my soul, and pour into it the sweetness of the spirit. Give me solid faith, sure hope and unfailing charity, Most Good Father.

You who lead me, remove from me the vanity of the soul, the fickleness of the mind, the waywardness of the heart, the flattery of the mouth, the pride of the eyes.

O God of mercy, I ask you through your beloved Son, give me to live mercy, application to piety, compassion with the afflicted, and sharing with the poor."

This prayer by St. Anselm shows us how our Lenten efforts can be made in the heart of our daily lives. We don't necessarily need big actions to live Lent to the full. With these Lenten journeys on Hozana, discover how to deepen your faith concretely through 40 actions; one for each day of Lent!

Virtus" fraternity prayer

"O my God I approach your infinite mystery and adore you.
Holy Trinity, pacify my heart, make it your beloved home, the place of your beatifying presence.

O Jesus, you who constantly stand at the door of my heart and knock, enter and change my life by the infinite power of your love.
Carry my burden, lift my weaknesses, transform me and unite me to you in an awakened and adoring faith.

What shall I repay the Lord for all he has given me? I will take the chalice and the cross of salvation, I will offer myself entirely to his holy will.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, in whom I place all my trust, never let me abandon you. Let every beat of my heart, every breath of my soul, be an echo of your love. Take the heart of stone from my chest, put into it a new spirit and your heart of flesh. Be my rest, my strength, and my light for all eternity.
 Amen"
