About Saint Thomas Aquinas

Did you know that he was called "Dumb Ox"  by his teachers as he had such a difficult time at school? He was just too intelligent and had a million ideas running through his head all at the same time. Despite their opinion, he became a Dominican friar. Today he is considered as a great philosopher, theologian and Doctor of the Church. He wrote about the unity between faith and reason and that everything comes from God the Creator. The "Summa Theologica" was his last and most famous work. He is known for his many famous quotes. Here is one of them:

To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.

What He can do for You !

Saint Thomas Aquinas is the patron saint of students and schools.

We all know a student who is alone in front of their computer because their university has closed. We all know someone who has lost a job or is depressed from working alone at home. We all know someone who has recently put their key under the door and closed their company. We all know someone who is tired of waiting to see what the government will do next.

Let us bring all of these petitions to St. Thomas, and ask for his intercession. He can help us to keep hoping and adapt to our new "working conditions". Most of all, he can help us keep our faith and belief in a God who is at our side daily.

The Novena

For nine consecutive days you will receive an intention, a short meditation and a prayer.

Day 1 : Pray for students both for those who learn easily and for those who struggle with their studies. May they be open to learning the truth.

Day 2 : Help me to be more loving so that I may treat my family, friends and acquaintances with the same holy love.

Day 3 : Pray for those looking for a new way to work to always seek guidance and clarity in their decision from God through prayer.

Day 4 : Pray for all people to be patient while discerning their vocations in life.

Day 5 : Pray for all those who are lost in lies.

Day 6 : Help us to not fall into sin in our secular society. Protect marriages from infidelity and help Christians to be advocates for the dignity of everyone.

Day 7 : Pray for me that I may also be humble, like you, when people try to tear me down or insult me.

Day 8 :  Pray for the Church to grow and to have more priests, religious and lay people who live authentic Christian lives.

Day 9 :  Pray that I may come to love and respect the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

Prayer from the novena

Grant Me O Lord

Direct my life, O my God, and grant that I might know what you would have me to do and for me to fulfill it as is necessary and profitable to my soul. Grant to me, O Lord my God, that I may not be found wanting in prosperity or in adversity and that I may not be lifted up by one nor cast down by the other. May I find joy in nothing but what leads to You and sorrow in nothing but what leads away from You. May I seek to please no one or fear to displease anyone, save only You. Grant to me, O Lord God, – a vigilant heart that no subtle speculation may ever lead me from You; – a noble heart that no unworthy affection may draw me from You; – an upright heart that no evil purpose may turn me from you. Give me a steadfast heart that no tribulation may shatter and a free heart that no violent affection may claim as its own. And finally, grant me O Lord my God, a mind to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you.
