St. Sebastian can help you keep the joy, hope and peace that the baby Jesus brought at Christmas. He is a powerful intercessor for plagues. Continue being a beacon of light for others !
How can St. Sebastian, help you ?
Last year spring we were all praying and hoping that Covid would be history in the year 2021! Unfortunately, many countries are again in lockdown and more and more people are unemployed, lonely, homeless or have lost someone dear to them. Let us turn to St. Sebastian, protector against plagues, and ask for his intercession. He can help us to carry our crosses, be pure of heart, be filled with the Spirit, and love our enemies.
Who is He ?
Nothing is known about St. Sebastian's youth other than the fact he may have come from southern France and he was educated in Milan. He joined the Roman Army in 283 AD, to help other Christians who were being persecuted by the Romans. He was the guard that protected Emperor Diocletian. Eventually Diocletian learned that he was a Christian and ordered that he be tied to a stake and used as target practice. Archers riddled his body with arrows and left his body for retrieval and burial. He was recovered by Irene of Rome who discovered that he was still living so she hid him and nursed him back to health. He is the patron saint of soldiers, athletes, and those who desire a saintly death.

Prayer from the novena
Glorious Saint Sebastian
Glorious St Sebastian, you, who enjoy God's favour, what a splendid example you gave to us by your life of prayer, sacrifice, suffering and martyrdom. Make us strong and joyful in faith, give us perseverance, obtain for us to be humble and content in living a simple, orderly life that is pleasing in the sight of the Almighty. Protect us from sin, from obvious and from secret vices and passions. Shield us from being quarrelsome, from jealousy, hard-heartedness, superstition and any kind of dishonesty. Bless livestock, life, livelihoods, forests, pastures and the entire countryside. Intercede, we entreat you, for thriving growth and against pestilences and illnesses. Strengthen us in our service for God, our fellow men and our country and, by your prayers, lead us all into our eternal country. Amen.
