Pray for the Dying & for the release of the Holy Souls

Praying for the release of the Holy Souls in Purgatory is a spiritual act of mercy. The Holy Souls in Purgatory are totally reliant on the Mercy of God & upon our prayers for their release.

With the intercession of Our Lady of Walsingham  ... we pray ...

Many of us in these days are pondering the enormity of the disaster that has unfolded before our eyes across Turkey and Syria due to the recent Earthquakes. This is on top of the catastrophic war throughout Ukraine, and in other parts of the world. The reports of war, terrorism, violence, disasters, killings are daily brought into our homes. Overwhelming are the number of murders of young people on our streets, the colossal tragedy of abortion worldwide, drug and gang warfare rages everywhere. The litany of killing is unprecedented. Sadly the culture of death is evident everywhere.

Feelings of helplessness, and of being overwhelmed, perhaps prevent us from seeing

beyond, to the frontiers of Eternity and the great mercy of Purgatory.

Men, women and children going about their daily lives - and  then suddenly with no warning, they face the living God and their particular judgement.

How prepared are most people, in today's world, to face such sudden death? More importantly, how many Catholics are even prepared, with all the  graces and helps of our Catholic Faith? How often do we go to Confession and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation?  How often do we ponder the 4 Last Things - Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell?

With so many people dying in tragic, unprovided, unprepared, violent, and often lonely circumstances, it should encourage us to pray all the more earnestly for the sick, the suffering, the dying and for the release of the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

Every day for 9 days:

Each day we pray for a different set of people around the world.

  • Day 1.    We pray for the sick, suffering and wounded, in all the war torn areas of the world and for all those affected by natural disasters.
  • Day 2.    We pray for all the victims of the earthquake in Syria and Turkey. We pray for the wounded, the sick, the fearful, the dying and pray for all who have died.
  • Day 3.    We pray for the peoples of Ukraine, Syria and all other war torn areas of the World. Syria is about to enter into year 13 of constant war, and Ukraine into year 2 of constant war.

Along side praying for the dying and for the Holy Souls, we pray for those living in desperate situations, for the grieving, the anxious, the depressed, the homeless and for those who have lost all hope of ever living a normal life again.

  • Day 4.    We pray for the victims of knife crime, of gang warfare, drug cartel & mafia feuds, and terrorist attacks.  We pray for families torn apart by such crimes. We pray for the wounded, the dying and the departed.
  • Day 5.    We pray for the the millions of unborn babies killed through the horror of abortion. May they rest in peace. We pray for mothers and fathers, who live daily the wounds of abortion trauma, and for all families, communities and nations wounded by abortion. O Lord have MERCY and heal our world of abortion's pain.
  • Day 6.    We pray for all the sick and suffering in hospitals throughout the world, and especially for those who are in death's agony.  Agonising Heart of Jesus, have mercy on the dying.
  • Day 7.    We pray for the release of the most forgotten souls in Purgatory.  Rest in peace dear ones …
  • Day 8.    We pray for the release of the Holy Souls in Purgatory belonging to our own families.  Rest in peace dear ones …
  • Day 9.    We pray for the release of all the Holy Souls in Purgatory from the beginning of time until the present hour. Rest in peace dear ones …

Prayers for the Dying and for the Holy Souls

For the Dying O Jesus, lover of souls, I pray and beseech Thee, by the agony of Thy Most Sacred Heart and by the Sorrows of Thy Holy Mother, cleanse in Thy Blood, the sinners of the whole world who are now in death's agony, who are to die this day/night. Amen Sacred Heart of Jesus, once in death's agony, have pity on the dying. Amen. For the Release of the Holy Souls in Purgatory - St. Gertrude the Great (1263-1334) “Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.” Amen. Eternal Rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Prayer on Passing a Cemetery May the Mercy of God embrace you. You were once as we are now, and we will be, one day, like you. You pray with us and we pray for you. May Our Blessed Lady intercede for us all. And may JESUS who suffered His Passion for you, grant you everlasting rest. Prayers for the Souls in Purgatory O gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on them. Be not severe in your judgments, but let some drops of Your Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames. And, Merciful Saviour, send your angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen. Lord Jesus, have mercy on the souls detained in Purgatory. It was for their salvation that you took on our human nature and suffered a most painful death. Have mercy on their burning desire to see you, have mercy on their tears of repentance. Through the merits of your passion, remit the sentence they incurred by their sins. Amen. Dear loving Jesus may your blood descend on those dear souls! May it shorten their time of atonement and may they soon be called to eternal happiness in your presence! Amen. O Sorrowful Virgin Mary, do present to the Heavenly Father, together with the sorrowful passion of Your Son, Your own sighs and tears and all the sorrows You did suffer in communion with Him, in order that refreshment may be granted to the souls now suffering in the fiery torments of purgatory, so that, being delivered from that painful prison, they may be clothed with glory in Heaven, there to sing the mercies of God for ever and ever. Amen. My Jesus, by the sorrows thou didst suffer in thy agony in the Garden, in thy scourging and crowning with thorns, on the way to Calvary, in thy crucifixion and death, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken; do thou deliver them from the terrible torments they endure; call them and admit them to thy most sweet embrace in paradise. Amen.
