Litany of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

Main post image

This is an official litany, which was given universal recommendation by Pope Leo XIII in 1886. Although the exact origins of this litany remain unkown, it is believed that St. Bernardine of Siena and his student St. John of Capistrano, two 15th century devotees to the Holy Name of Jesus, had a hand in its writing.  In this prayer are proclaimed the many names by which Jesus is known, which gives us a good opportunity to meditate on both our Lord's attribute and his life, while asking him for heavenly guidance and assistance. When prayed publicly, the congregation's lines are in italic.
