This litany was authorized for recitation in public by Pope Leo XIII in 1889.  It is a synthesis of older litanies, and it contains a total of 33 invocations, one for each year of life of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a deep reflection on the compassion, wisdom, justice and strength of the Heart of Jesus. A partial indulgence is attached to this litany. 

When recited by two or more persons, the presider says the parts in normal text, while the congregation responds with the text in italic.
