"Salutation to the Blessed Virgin" by St. Francis of Assisi

"I greet you, O holy lady, most holy queen, Mary, Mother of God, ever Virgin, chosen from heaven by the most holy Father, consecrated by him and by his most holy and beloved Son and by the consoling Spirit, in whom were and are all fullness of grace and all good.
 Hail, O palace of God.
 I greet you, his tabernacle.
I greet you, his dwelling place.
 I greet you, his garment.
 I greet you, his handmaid.
I greet you, his mother, and all of you, O holy virtues, who, by the grace and illumination of the Holy Spirit, are poured into the hearts of the faithful, to make them faithful to God."

This prayer is a greeting written by St. Francis of Assisi. Greeting the Virgin Mary is a way of recognizing in her the miracle of the Incarnation. It's also what we do with the best-known Marian prayer: the Hail Mary, which takes up the Angel's words of greeting to the Virgin.
