Prayer for the feast of the Assumption by Reverend Father Jean Couturier
" O Mary, our good Mother, who, borne by love, flies today in the bosom of God himself, cast upon us, as we leave the earth, a glance of mercy, and leave us your heart and its feelings. Accept the resolution we form this day, under your auspices, to devote ourselves more than ever to you and your worship. It is through you that we ask your adorable Son for the grace of an innocent life, unalterable purity and profound humility. May the last breath of our lives be a breath of love for Jesus, and of filial trust in you. It will ensure our happiness and make us share your bliss. So be it."
Canticle for the Assumption by Reverend Father Justin Etcheverry
" Who ascends into the air like the new dawn?
It is Mary! A tomb could not keep her body;
An angel with reverence lifting her on his wing,
She flies, she flies to the sound of holy chords!
Unite the voices of earth
To the songs of heavenly sojourn,
Happy children, it is our Mother
Who triumphs on this great day!
It is Jesus who places the crown on your brow,
Happy Mother! Your Son makes you queen today.
You shared his cross, you share his throne;
You wept with him, you reign with him!
You fled here below, simple and modest Virgin,
And crowds, and glory, and all flattering noises;
And you see at your feet the whole heavenly court
Whose beauty pales beside thy splendours.
In your new abode, remember the earth!
In Heaven, remember that you were our sister!
And keep a Mother's heart for your children.
Oh, when will we all be able to press on to that heart?
So be it."
Prayer on the crowning of the Blessed Virgin by Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort
" Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven; at all times, in all places, let us make her praises resound.
Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven. On this day, God gives a feast to the queen of his court; after God, the angels crown her head in turn.
Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven.
Her light is brighter than that of the cherubim; the fire of the seraphim blows a less ardent flame.
Let us crown the Queen of the Angels on earth as it is in heaven.
What court always surrounds her?
All the glorious thrones and virtues of heaven are the jewels in her crown.
Let us crown the queen of the angels on earth as it is in heaven.
She is more faithful to her Creator than all the archangels; more zealous in her heart and purer than all the angels.
Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven.
All heaven rejoices at her greatness; the angels with nine choirs celebrate her magnificence.
Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven.
O heavenly one! O sweet harmony! O angelic concerts!
Let everything in the universe resound to Mary.
Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven.
Glory, love, honor and praise to this queen of heaven; in all times, in all places, long live Our Lady of the angels!
Let us crown the queen of angels on earth as it is in heaven. So be it."
Prayer for the Octave of the Assumption by Reverend Father Avrillon
"Virgin purer than the angels, more ablaze with divine love than all the seraphim; incomparable Mother of my God and my Savior, powerful mediatrix to the sovereign mediator of God and men, you are worthy of my respects, my trust and my love. Triumph in all centuries, Queen of heaven and earth. May the eternal Father crown you with immortal glory as his daughter, the Son as his Mother, and the Holy Spirit as his spouse. May all the heavenly dwelling resound at your entrance with songs of joy and acclamation; may all the blessed spirits lead you in triumph to the throne of Glory prepared for you. It was the excess of the purest and most ardent love that took your life; it was the same love that reunited your body and your holy soul through a glorious and anticipated resurrection. You were lifted up to Heaven on the wings of that sacred love which had set your heart ablaze throughout your life, and you were crowned there by the hands of your adorable Son, who is love itself, since it is love that today makes the glory of the Church.Ask the Lord, from this throne of flames and fire that you occupy in Heaven, to release a few sparks of this sacred fire to set our hearts ablaze. Obtain for us, O divine Mother, from your adorable Son, to whom you can do all things, true purity of heart, profound humility, ever-victorious grace, love of God and of the Father.and faithful love, generous perseverance and divine protection; grant me yours in this life at the dreaded moment of death. So be it."
