John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”. (John 1:5)

Passage from the Gospel of John, chapter 1

“IN THE BEGINNING was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—”

Commentary on the verse from John 1:5

Jesus is the light that God sent us so that we may not be lost in Darkness. We are invited to walk in his light, that light that reveals God’s love, that reveals us to ourselves, that frees us.

Walking in the light is accepting to see things, and oneself in truth and it is above all recognizing our weaknesses, our shortcomings and letting us love by God. God does not expect perfection from us but that we return to him to let him heal all our wounds.
John reminds us in his first letter: “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:5-7)
