Anyone who recites, reads, hears or carries the prayer of invocation to the "Holy Cross of Jesus Christ" will be protected from all visible and invisible enemies.

This has been tradition since the following prayer was found in Christ's tomb in 802. Written in gold letters on parchment, it was sent by Pope Leo III to Charlemagne when he set out to fight the enemies of Saint Michael. The prayer is kept at Saint-Michel Abbey. "Almighty God, who suffered death at the stake for all our sins, be with me;

Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, have mercy on me;

Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, be my hope;

Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, repel from me all blades;
