The Seven "Our Fathers" of Saint Bridget

Saint Bridget of Sweden received several divine revelations during her lifetime. In a collection of writings titled "Revelations," Saint Bridget reveals to us the requests and promises that Jesus made to her. In it, she reveals Christ’s great love for humanity, as well as prayers and devotions to honor His sacrifice: the 15 prayers and the 7 “Pater Noster” prayers of Saint Bridget.

The 15 Prayers and the 7 Our Fathers of Saint Bridget

During one of His apparitions, Jesus spoke to Saint Bridget about His martyrdom and revealed to her a way to honor Him through 15 prayers to be recited over the course of a year.
“I received 5,480 blows on my body. If you wish to honor them with some act of devotion, you shall recite 15 Our Fathers, 15 Hail Marysand the 15 prayers that I am about to teach you, for an entire year... When the year is over, you will have honored each of my wounds.”
In exchange for these prayers, he promises graces not only to the person praying but also to other souls: These 15 prayers will also save 15 souls from Purgatory, confirm 15 righteous souls, and convert 15 hearts.

He also reveals to her seven meditations—the 7 Pater Noster. Here is Jesus’ promise associated with them:
“Know that I will grant the following five graces to those who, for twelve years, recite seven Our Fathers and Hail Marys and the following prayers in honor of my Precious Blood:

  • 1. They will not go to Purgatory.
  • 2. I will count them among the martyrs, as if they had shed their blood for the Faith.
  • 3. I will preserve in a state of sanctifying grace the souls of three of their relatives, of their choosing.
  • 4. The souls of their relatives, up to the fourth generation, will avoid hell.
  • 5. They will know the date of their death one month in advance.

If they were to die before then, I will consider the grace granted as if they had fulfilled all the conditions.”

The Sequence of the 7 Our Fathers

Introductory Prayer

O Jesus, I now wish to recite the Our Father seven times, in union with the same love through which this prayer sanctified and softened Your Heart. Take it from my lips into Your divine Heart. Correct it and perfect it so that it may bring as much honor and joy to the Holy Trinity as You have shown us on earth. May this prayer overwhelm Your Holy Humanity to glorify Your Holy Wounds and the Precious Blood that flowed from them.

First Our Father: Circumcision

Recite:

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of Mary and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the first wounds, the first sorrows, and the first shedding of blood by Jesus to atone for the sins of humanity, of youth, and my own, and for the renunciation of the first mortal sins, especially among my relatives.”

Second Our Father: Sweat of Blood

Recite:

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of Mary and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the terrible sufferings of the Heart of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and every drop of His sweat of blood to atone for all sins of the heart, my own, for the renunciation of such sins, and for the growth of love for God and neighbor.”

Third Our Father: The Scourging

Recite:

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of Mary and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the thousands of wounds, the cruel sufferings, and the precious Blood of Jesus during His scourging, for all sins of the flesh—my own—for the renunciation of such sins, and for the preservation of innocence, especially among my relatives.”

Fourth Our Father: Crowning with Thorns

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, through the Immaculate Hands of Mary and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the wounds, the sorrows, and the precious Blood from the holy head of Jesus during His Crowning with Thorns, to atone for all the sins of the spirit of man—including my own—for the renunciation of such sins, and for the extension of Christ’s Kingdom on Earth.”

Fifth Our Father: Carrying the Cross

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of Mary and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the sufferings of Jesus on the Way of the Cross, especially His holy wound on the shoulder, the Precious Blood, to lighten the weight of the cross, my murmuring against the holy ordinances, all the sins I have committed, for the renunciation of such sins, and for a true love of the Holy Cross.”

Sixth Our Father: Crucifixion

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, through the immaculate hands of Mary and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You Your Divine Son, nailed and raised on the cross, His wounds in His hands and feet, and the three streams of His Precious Blood shed for us, His extreme poverty, His perfect obedience, all the torments of His body and soul, His precious death, and His bloodless memorial in every Holy Mass on earth, to atone for all offenses against the vows and holy institutions, in reparation for my sins and those of the whole world, for the sick and the dying, to obtain holy priests and laypeople, for the intentions of the Holy Father, for the restoration of the Christian family, to strengthen and encourage the faith, for our homeland, for the unity of peoples in Christ and His Church, as well as for all countries where Christians are in the minority.”

Seventh Our Father: Wound in the Side

  • one Our Father
  • one Hail Mary
  • “Eternal Father, accept, for the needs of the Holy Church and in expiation for the sins of mankind, these precious gifts—Water and Blood—flowing from the wound in the Divine Heart of Jesus.”

Closing Prayer

Blood of Christ, the last remnant of Your Sacred Heart, wash me and purify me from all my sins.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me and purify me from my original sins, and save me, along with all the poor souls, from the flames of Purgatory.
