Day 6: Let Us Pray for The Researchers

Researchers are people working in healthcare, in agriculture, in the business environment, for the economy, etc.

Extract from The Book of Wisdom

Wisdom shines bright and never grows dim; those who love her and look for her can easily find her. She is quick to make herself known to anyone who desires her. Get up early in the morning to find her, and you will have no problem; you will find her sitting at your door. To fasten your attention on Wisdom is to gain perfect understanding. If you look for her, you will soon find peace of mind, because she will be looking for those who are worthy of her, and she will find you wherever you are. She is kind and will be with you in your every thought.
Wisdom begins when you sincerely want to learn. To desire Wisdom is to love her; to love her is to keep her laws; to keep her laws is to be certain of immortality; immortality will bring you close to God.
- Wisdom 6: 12-19

Extract from Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) N°10

The Lord said to Cain: "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground" (Gen 4:10).The voice of the blood shed by men continues to cry out, from generation to generation, in ever new and different ways.

The Lord's question: "What have you done?", which Cain cannot escape, is addressed also to the people of today, to make them realize the extent and gravity of the attacks against life which continue to mark human history; to make them discover what causes these attacks and feeds them; and to make them ponder seriously the consequences which derive from these attacks for the existence of individuals and peoples.

Some threats come from nature itself, but they are made worse by the culpable indifference and negligence of those who could in some cases remedy them. Others are the result of situations of violence, hatred and conflicting interests, which lead people to attack others through murder, war, slaughter and genocide.

And how can we fail to consider the violence against life done to millions of human beings, especially children, who are forced into poverty, malnutrition and hunger because of an unjust distribution of resources between peoples and between social classes? And what of the violence inherent not only in wars as such but in the scandalous arms trade, which spawns the many armed conflicts which stain our world with blood? What of the spreading of death caused by reckless tampering with the world's ecological balance, by the criminal spread of drugs, or by the promotion of certain kinds of sexual activity which, besides being morally unacceptable, also involve grave risks to life? It is impossible to catalogue completely the vast array of threats to human life, so many are the forms, whether explicit or hidden, in which they appear today!

Witnesses of God: Professor Jerome Lejeune

Doctor, pediatrician, researcher, Jerome Lejeune put his intelligence in the service of the younger ones, notably the unborn, and children suffering from chromosomal abnormalities.  He discovered that Down syndrome was linked to an extra copy of chromosome 21. His objection to contraceptive and abortion laws lowered the esteem of his colleagues for him. He was a friend of Pope John Paul II, and a member of the Vatican's Pontifical Academy for Life. The case of his beatification is ongoing. His bloodless martyrdom is an example for all those who are seeking to improve the life condition of the vulnerable.

Let us pray for the researchers, regardless of their study field; that they may prioritize researching the respect of human life, the dignity of embryos and all human life forms. Let us pray that they may be enlightened by God's wisdom, that no spirit of domination and manipulation may affect them. Let us also pray for the students, that they devote their vocation to the service of life, in the image of Professor Lejeune.

Community prayer

Prayer to Mary by St. John Paul II (Evangelium Vitae)

O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all people of good will, the civilization of truth and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.

Thank you! 111 people prayed
