30th May: My Month With Mary
Opening Prayer
Come Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary your well-beloved spouse. (3 times)
Quote from a Saint
“Behold the cross of the Lord; when all adversity surrounds you, rejoice, for the Lion of Judah has conquered!”
(St Anthony of Padua)
Reflection
During his prayers a pilgrim was complaining to Jesus about his cross being too heavy and burdensome. Jesus appeared to him and showed him a door. He opened the door, and saw a room filled with different-sized crosses. Jesus said, “Take your pick”. The pilgrim selected his ideal cross and went on his way. As the man examined his cross again, he realised he had chosen the exact same cross he had been complaining about. God never gives us a burden too heavy for us to carry, because it is with his help and grace that we carry that burden.
Resolution
Lord Jesus, help us to carry our crosses in life, as you carried our crosses to your death.
Marian Prayer: Ave Maris Stella
Hail, bright star of ocean,
God's own Mother blest,
Ever-sinless Virgin,
Gate of heavenly rest.
Taking that sweet Ave
Which from Gabriel came,
Peace confirm within us,
Changing Eva's name.
Break the captives' fetters,
Light on blindness pour,
All our ills expelling,
Every bliss implore.
Show thyself a Mother;
May the Word Divine,
Born for us thy Infant,
Hear our prayers through thine.
Virgin all excelling,
Mildest of the mild,
Freed from guilt, preserve us,
Pure and undefiled.
Keep our life all spotless,
Make our way secure,
Till we find in Jesus,
Joy for evermore.
Through the highest heaven
To the Almighty Three,
Father, Son and Spirit,
One same glory be. Amen.
