The Lord Has Done This For Me

Judges 13:3

The Angel of Yahweh appeared to this woman and said to her, 'You are barren and have had no child, but you are going to conceive and give birth to a son'.

I spoke a lot about contemplative prayer or silent prayer this week: staying still and silent to listen to God.

Last Lent, a group of parishioners experienced this silence in prayer. It was such a beautiful experience.

Sometimes, it feels as though God is the one staying silent. For days, for years, for life.

In today's readings, two women are barren: Manoah, Zorah's wife, has borne no children; Zechariah says to the angel that his wife Elizabeth is getting on in years. These women are aware they won't know the joys of motherhood.

And sometimes, the answers to prayers seem unbelievable!

This is Zechariah's reaction in Luke 1:20: “Look! Since you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time, you will be silenced and have no power of speech until this has happened.”

Are we ready to hear the Good News?

God doesn't forget us. God answers our prayers at the right time.

Like Elizabeth, let's show a total trust in Him “Some time later his wife Elizabeth conceived and for five months she kept to herself, saying, The Lord has done this for me, now that it has pleased him to take away the humiliation I suffered in public.” - Luke 1:24-25.

The Lord has done this for us, now it has pleased him!

Let the just rejoice, for their Justifier is born. Let the sick and infirm rejoice, for their Savior is born. Let the captives rejoice, for their Redeemer is born. Let slaves rejoice, for their Master is born. Let free men rejoice, for their Liberator is born. Let all Christians rejoice, for Jesus Christ is born. St Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-440)

Thank you! 79 people prayed

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone. Col 4:6
