Day 9 - Gaudate et Exsultate, Holiness for everyone!

Once Upon a Time…

In 2018, Pope Francis had published “Gaudate et Exultate”, an apostolic exhortation calling for the World to become holy. It is truly a work of wonder on spiritual life that has touched the hearts and lives of many Christians and is a true success especially among young people. Our Holy Father helps us recall that holiness is a vocation for anyone who has been baptised. Holiness is not unattainable and disembodied. It is a path that is tangible and accessible to each and everyone of us! The Pope gives us very practical advice on how we can live as a Christian each day, loving God and each other.

A Saying…

We are ALL called to be holy by showing love and being a living testimony in our daily lives, wherever we may find ourselves

“To be holy, it isn't necessary to be a bishop, priest, or a religious sister or brother. Many times we are tempted to believe that holiness is only for those who have the possibility to get away from daily occupations, in order to consecrate much time in prayer. It isn't like that at all. We are ALL called to be holy by showing love and being a living testimony in our daily lives, wherever we may find ourselves. Are you a consecrated person? Be holy by living joyfully your covenant. Are you married? Be holy by loving and taking care of your spouse as Christ takes care of His Church. Are you a labourer? Be holy by accomplishing honestly and with competence your work for the wellbeing of your fellowmen. Are you a father, mother, grandfather or grandmother? Be holy by being patient when teaching children how to follow Jesus. Have you got authority? Be holy by fighting for the common good and giving up your personal interests.” Gaudate et Exsultate n° 14.

A Prayer…

Today let us pray for our Holy Father, that he continues on his path towards holiness by choosing to do everything with love, always becoming more humble, depending only on the grace of God rather than his own strength.

Three ways to pray for this intention:
1. I click immediately on the tab “I pray” just below, and I carefully read the “prayer to the Holy Spirit for Pope Francis”
2. I say 10 Hail Marys and I click on the tab “I pray”
3. I offer 3 minutes of silence, heart to heart, with God, then I click on the tab “I pray”

Community prayer

Prayer to the Holy Spirit for our Holy Father, Pope Francis!

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone. Col 4:6
