Blessed Charles de Foucauld
Blessed Charles de Foucauld
A victim of Love
A dashing officer and ladies’ man with an assertive personality, young, rich, miscreant, with questionable morals, Charles tended to burn his candle at both ends. Soon fed up and disgusted with his life, he left everything to go on a solo exploration of the still uncharted Morocco. When he returned to France, he found his childhood faith again. He felt called to become a Trappist monk, but was thirsty for an even more radical life style for Christ. He chose to become a hermit in the middle of the desert. His witness for Jesus in Tuareg territory was through abnegation, penance, and full surrender to divine Providence. This choice cost him his life—he died from a stab wound—his life offered as a victim of Love. Today, the spiritual family born out of his martyrdom has more than 15,000 members worldwide.

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone. Col 4:6
