August Retreat – Woman, An Outstanding Mediator !

‘‘Mary’s beautiful mission is to bring to Jesus all those who come to her.’’ Marthe Robin

During this month of August we shall contemplate Mary in her assumption on the 15th, but less known is Mary’s feast as Mediator of all graces celebrated on the 31st August, mainly in Belgium. ‘‘Mary, Mediator of all graces’’. She is given this title thus, because of her maternity. Bossuet makes a beautiful summary when he says:

‘‘Having given birth to the source of grace, she is associated to all graces.’’

And the fathers of the Church liked to say:

‘‘ Everything that suits God by nature suits Mary by grace…’’

She is indeed that woman who all welcome grace, filled with the Spirit, her ‘yes’ gives room to nothing else than the Father’s Will. Owing to her maternity, as any mother would do, Mary likes sharing what she receives; Ste Therese of the Infant Jesus then said:

‘‘The mother’s treasure belongs to the child’’. Even God compares Himself to that mother: ‘‘Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you !’’ (Isaiah 49,15)

Among God’s names we find: El Shaddaï, often translated as ‘‘The Mighty God’’, but this term also refers to the woman’s breasts ; therefore mighty and nourishing God.

Let’s walk along with Mary to discover the beauty of this meditation.

Prayer for women

Thank you Lord for creating me woman! I am your daughter and I bless you for this new day, where your kindness and mercy are renewed again for me. I stand in the shadow of your wings and let myself love and look though you (I take time to let myself be watched by the Lord in all my being as a woman) Lord, you are my Creator and you have desired me from all eternity, as I am. You love me so much, I have so much value in your eyes that you gave your life for me. I thank you for the Life and Beauty that flow in me. By your Holy Spirit, I ask you the grace to take care of it, to glorify you with all my being as a woman. Lord, you are my God, my Saviour, my Beloved… (I take time to tell the Lord who He is for me : my rock, my sheperd…) Father, on this day, bless my thoughts, my actions and my encounters ; may your blessing reach each person you will put on my way. Through the intercession of all the holy women of heaven, I beg you to fill the hearts of women of the Hozanna community. Amen.
