Day 13: One of the Secrets of Holiness
One of the secrets of holiness is very plain: it's perseverance. We are humans, we are imperfect, and we are bound to fall. That sin you have confessed once again, you might have to confess it again later. Holiness does not mean to make “zero mistakes”, rather, it is to always have the will to pick yourself up, striving to lead your life according to your ideals and your confidence in Christ.
We must accept that we are journeying and never quit going forward. We must accept this holiness project set out for ourselves and for all. We must do our best, never grow discouraged, and accept that our holiness is going to be “merely” that of a poor man who lets himself be raised up by grace. “It is in your weakness that I reveal my power”, Jesus explained to saint Paul.
On her way back from her pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Claire de Castelbajac wrote to her parents: “You have to pray much for me, because I am becoming conscious of how difficult it is to remain converted”. Being aware of our weaknesses allows us to remain humble before God. It preserves us from pride and allows us to go from desired holiness to consecrated, offered humility.
A question to ask yourself:
How persevering am I on the path of holiness? And how faithful am I in prayer?
