Day 2 - Saint Rita, Great Affection for the Poor
Audio version
In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Job 31:16-22
Have I been insensible to the needs of the poor? or let a widow's eyes grow dim, Have I eaten my bit of bread on my own without sharing it with the orphan? I, whom God has fostered father-like from childhood, and guided since I left my mother's womb ..... Have I ever seen a wretch in need of clothing, or the poor with nothing to wear, without his having cause to bless me from his heart, as he felt the warmth of the fleece from my lambs? Have I raised my hand against an orphan, presuming on my credit at the gate? If so, let my shoulder fall from its socket, let my arm break off at the elbow!
Prayer of this day
O God, guardian of charity, you have sent Your devoted servant Rita to show us the way to holiness. Her life is a hymn to hope and tenacity in trials.
By the miracle of the bees that entered her mouth without even stinging her, You wanted her to receive from an early age the mark of the highest recognition of Your omnipotence.
From her youth she submitted to Your will by tirelessly practising charity towards her neighbour.
Allow me, glorious Savior, through his intercession, to be filled with this spirit of charity in all circumstances and on all occasions towards others and especially towards my enemies and those who make me suffer.
Deign to grant me the gift of charity in adversity, and may charity towards my neighbour help me to overcome difficulties and moments of discouragement. Amen.
Saint Rita, great affection for the poor, pray for us.

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone. Col 4:6
