The Descent of the Holy Spirit, consecration of our talents and charisms.

'By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit'. (John 15,8)

Invocation to the Holy Spirit:

In the Name and the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Come, O Holy Spirit, come! From Your bright and blissful Home rays of healing light impart.

Come, Father of the poor, Source of gifts that will endure, Light of every human heart.

You of all consolers best, of the soul most kindly guest, quickening courage do bestow.

In hard labor You are rest, in the heat You refresh best, and solace give in our woe.

O most blessed Light divine, let Your radiance in us shine, and our inmost being fill.

Excerpts from the Pentecost Sequence.

Psalm 91 (92):

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,/to sing praise to your name, Most High,/To proclaim your love at daybreak,/your faithfulness in the night,/With the ten-stringed harp,/with melody upon the lyre./For you make me jubilant, Lord, by your deeds;/at the works of your hands I shout for joy./How great are your works, Lord!/How profound your designs!/[...]They just shall flourish like the palm tree,/shall grow like a cedar of Lebanon./Planted in the house of the Lord,/They shall flourish in the courts of our God./They shall bear fruit even in old age,/they will stay fresh and green,/To proclaim: "The Lord is just;/my rock, in whom there is no wrong."

Reading: Romans 8, 26-28

In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God's will. We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

Meditation:

God the Holy Spirit, who does not produce any divine person, became fruitful through Mary whom he espoused. It was with her, and in her and of her that he produced his masterpiece, God-made-man, and that he produces every day until the end of the world the members of the body of this adorable Head. For this reason, the more he finds Mary, his dear and inseparable spouse, in a soul, the more powerful and effective he becomes in producing Jesus Christ in that soul and that soul in Jesus Christ.

When the Holy Spirit, her spouse, finds Mary in a soul, he hastens there and enters fully into it. He gives himself generously to that soul according to the place it has given to his spouse. One of the main reasons why the Holy Spirit does not work striking wonders in souls is that he fails to find in them a sufficiently close union with his faithful and inseparable spouse.

St.Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, Treatise on True Devotion, §20;36.

Prayer of consecration:

In your unending kindness, O loving God, you gave each of us the gifts and charisma needed for the greater good. I hereby consecrate to you, O Mary, all the gifts I received from God. You who bore the most beautiful fruit earth ever knew, God made man, allow me to make these gifts flourish.

Humble servant of the Lord, guard me against pride and vanity and teach me above all to love God and my neighbor. By your motherly prayer, help me welcome the Holy Spirit, so that I may always seek giving more than receiving.

Pray a chaplet decade.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, That never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, Implored your help, or sought your intercession, Was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, Despise not my petitions, But in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone. Col 4:6
