Saint Catherine Labouré
St. Catherine Labouré
Robust common sense and unswerving obedience
They wanted to give Catherine in marriage, but she stood her ground and entered the convent. There, Mary visited her and instructed her to strike a medal! She was milking cows for the community (about 100,000 liters!) and now she obeyed despite hundreds of obstacles. Today people all around the world wear the Miraculous Medal. During the Parisian riots, Catherine distributed these medals to the insurgents. When they ransacked the church of Notre Dame des Victoires, she rightly predicted: "Since they laid hands on Our Lady, they won't go very far." Indeed, the rebellion ended shortly afterward. Her common sense and her obedience made Catherine the messenger of the Mother of God at the time of great social strife.
