Day Two: Saint Charbel, serving with joy
He considered himself as a servant to the others, carrying out merrily not only what he was commanded, but also any small favor he might be asked, including from novices and servants. He obeyed with joy and vivacity, kindly and respectful of everyone. He expressed satisfaction in all the services he was asked to perform, even from the subordinates such as the help or the workers and laborers who worked in the convent and the vineyard of the Hermitage. He insisted on performing the task flawlessly. He found satisfaction when he was ordered to accomplish a hard task instead of another colleague. He did it with affability.
When the Father Superior ordered him to visit the sick, to pray for them and to bless them, he embraced this work with joy and readiness. He was zealous in his mission of salvation, graciously receiving those who wanted to confess, doing his best to bring them back on the righteous path.
St. Charbel, help the volunteers be purveyors of joy to the refugees they serve, help us broadcast happiness as we serve our fellow men and women, just as you did. In Jesus' name, Amen.
