Day 9 Novena to the Sacred Heart
Let us pray to the Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ who hallowed the world by his love.
Father of mercies, You sent your Son into the world to save it, and you made him sovereign on all creation. May the fire of the love burning in his Heart spread to the whole world, consuming it as a praise to your glory. We ask you this through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
From the first letter of Saint John 4,7-16
'Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he had loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us.'
Meditation with Charles de Foucauld:
Catholic doctrine enlightens us by displaying, in front of our eyes, the sweetest, the brightest, the warmest, the most benevolent truth: the truth of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The revelation of this truth is the revelation of God's love for us. We aren't forsaken, forgotten, alone, on the path of the cross, the path followed by Jesus: there is a Heart who loves us, we are loved at any moment: before we were, a Heart loved us, and during all our live, this Heart cradles us with the warmest love.
This Heart is perfect, pure as light, innocent as angels, unsullied. Divine mind shines within him, all beauties and perfections gleam in him: it's the Heart of Jesus, the Heart of God made man.
Lord Jesus, you love the sinners, and in your mercy you forgive them. We ask you, in the name of your love, help them get closer to your Heart, and find in it a source of mercy and forgiveness of sins, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Chaplet to the Sacred Heart. Here's how to proceed for the Chaplet:
- Begin with the following prayer on the Crucifix (written by St. Ignatius of Loyola, or St. Thomas of Aquinas):
'Soul of Christ, sanctify me/Body of Christ, save me/Blood of Christ, inebriate me/Water from the side of Christ, wash me/Passion of Christ, strengthen me/O Good Jesus, hear me/Within your wounds, hide me/Permit me not to be separated from you/From the wicked foe, defend me/At the hour of my death, call me and bid me come to you/That with your saints I may praise you forever and ever. Amen.
- On the large beads say:
'O sweetest Heart of Jesus, I implore that I may ever love you more and more.'
- On the small beads say:
'Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love.'
- At the end of each decade, say:
'Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation'.
-Upon completing the chaplet, say:
'May the Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be blessed, adored and praised with grateful affection, at every moment in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time.'
