Saint Joan of Arc
The Steadfast
Joan was a shepherdess who lived on the banks of the Meuse River in France. At age 17, she became the captain of the French armies, by divine appointment. She who had never left her village of Domremy, was sent by God to restore the hope of the King of France. She, who used to pray humbly in the village church, left to besiege Orleans, sword in hand…
She was illiterate, but her candid answers held in check the theological heads of her time assembled to convict her. The transcript of her trial still fills us with wonder today!
She, who could have fled from the predicted martyrdom, resisted the temptation in spite of her fear: she bravely went to the stake in Rouen, with only this word on her lips: Jesus!
