Christmas Novena - Day 1 - Reconciliation

December 16th, 2020

On this first day, we will strengthen our values so that Christmas is what it should be:

a celebration dedicated to reconciliation, dedicated to the generous and understanding forgiveness we learn from a compassionate God.

With the forgiveness of the Holy Spirit, we can reconcile ourselves with God and our brothers and sisters and move forward in a new life. This is the good news that Saint Paul proclaimed in his letters, as we read in Saint Paul's Epistle to the Romans (5:1-11):

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

To live Christmas is to forget the offenses if someone has offended us, and to ask for forgiveness if we have mistreated others. Thus, from forgiveness harmony is born and we build the peace that the angels announced in Bethlehem: peace on earth to men who love the Lord and love each other. We human beings can harm ourselves through hatred, or we can be happy in a reconciling love. This good mission is for each of us: to be agents of reconciliation and not of discord, to be instruments of peace and sowers of fraternity.

Memorare to Saint Joseph

Remember, O most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, my beloved Patron, that never it has been heard that anyone invoked your patronage and sought your aid without being comforted. Inspired by this confidence I come to you and fervently commend myself to you. Despise not my petition, O dearest foster father of our Redeemer, but accept it graciously. Amen.
