Day Nine: Of the Prayer of Mary

9th Virtue: Of the Prayer of Mary

No soul on this earth has ever followed so perfectly as the blessed Virgin that great lesson of our Saviour: We ought always to pray, and not to faint [...]  From no other can we better take example, and learn the necessity of persevering in prayer, than from Mary. Mary gave an example that we ought to follow and not faint. After Jesus Christ, the divine mother was the most perfect in the virtue of prayer, of all who ever have lived or ever will live because her prayer was continual and persevering.  [...]  God speaks to souls only in solitude [...] because the quiet and the silence that is enjoyed in solitude force the soul to leave the earth in thought, and to meditate on the things of heaven [...] Mary, through her love of prayer and solitude, was always careful to avoid conversation with men.

A Word of Perspective: Apply Mary's Prayer in Your Life

Prayer gives you space to lead your spiritual combat.

It is precisely when you decide to pray that a multitude of "urgent", "essential" tasks come to your mind. But these thoughts are misleading you.

When comes the time for prayer, I will say: "Jesus, You are the Saviour of the earth. Here I am, Your humble servant," and I will dedicate to Jesus the entire time I planned to offer Him.

Prayer

"O Mary, most pure Virgin, Your Immaculate Heart must triumph. Watch over the innocent children, may they remain pure; assist young people, may they fight for their chastity and leave their hearts open to offer You their burning love.

Guide the spouses called to live the holiness of conjugal love; let the priests and holy people stay  faithful to the celibacy they offered to Jesus for the Salvation of our Souls.

Defend us against the prince of this world and his influence. Help us combat that which defaces the Humanity made in God's image, may we do so with the Rosary.

Be the guardian of our inner lives, teach us to be mindful of our brothers and sisters, to always respect them and look at them through the light of Christ.

Amen."

(Translated from the French Children's Rosary prayer.)

Pray a decade, and repeat three times the following invocation: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you".

Happy feast of the Immaculate Conception!

Mary, Mother of Hope

Mary, Mother of hope, accompany us on our journey! Teach us to proclaim the living God; help us to bear witness to Jesus, the one Saviour; make us kindly towards our neighbours, welcoming to the needy, concerned for justice, impassioned builders of a more just world; intercede for us as we carry out your work in history, certain that the Father's plan will be fulfilled. Amen.
