Divine Mercy Chaplet for an End to Coronavirus

Let's ask for God's mercy during this pandemic, praying the Divine Mercy Novena and afterwards the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily at 3 pm for an end to the virus.

Let's ask for God's mercy during this coronavirus pandemic by praying the Divine Mercy Novena, starting on Good Friday at 12pm (thereafter praying at 3pm) and ending on the vigil of Divine Mercy Sunday (the Sunday after Easter Sunday). We'll then continue after the novena ends with the Divine Mercy chaplet, praying every day at 3 pm.

In addition to the intentions Jesus gave St Faustina for the Divine Mercy Novena, we'll be keeping in mind two other intentions:

1. An end to the coronavirus pandemic

2. To spiritually place ourselves beside those dying alone across the world from the virus

No One Dies Alone

Every day people around the world are dying from coronavirus, but they are dying alone without their loved ones beside them due to the infectious nature of the disease. Hearing this, an Irish priest was inspired to encourage people to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 pm every day, in order to place ourselves spiritually at the side of those dying alone from the virus. St Faustina was spiritually transported by Jesus to pray the chaplet at the bedside of a dying man. We would like to answer that call in this community, which is why once the Divine Mercy Novena ends, we will continue to pray the chaplet at 3 pm.

Livestream

For those who would like to Livestream this chaplet, we'll include a link to pray it daily with Walsingham Shrine. On the days when it is not being prayed at Walsingham Shrine, we'll try to include a link for you to pray it elsewhere.

How to Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy is said on ordinary rosary beads. It is prayed in the following order.

Optional Opening Prayers

(said while holding the first bead on the rosary, traditionally used for the Our Father when praying the rosary)

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

(repeat three times)

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You!

On the next three beads

The Our Father,
Hail Mary,
Apostle's Creed.

On the large bead before each decade

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord

Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

Once on each of the ten small beads

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Concluding doxology

(after five decades repeat three times)

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and the whole world.

Optional Closing Prayer

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

The Divine Mercy Devotion

The Divine Mercy devotion finds its origins in Poland in 1931. There, St Faustina, a Polish nun, had visions of Jesus who requested an image of himself to be painted, inscribed with the words "Jesus, I trust in You". He promised that "the soul that will venerate this image will not perish." Divine Mercy encourages us to remember that God is merciful, that we should be merciful, and to completely trust in Jesus.

The Divine Mercy Novena

Jesus asked that the first Sunday after Easter be a feast of mercy and that for the nine days we pray a novena: "On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy ... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls." Divine Mercy Sunday was instituted by Pope St John Paul II. Jesus told St Faustina that "on that day the divine floodgates through which graces flow will be opened".
